Is it illegal to get rid of Pigeons?

I have a boat at a boat dock. It is being taken over my Pigeons. The boat dock master says there are people video taping the pigeons to make sure knowone hurts them. He said they are protected by the wildlife people... I am located in Florida and I can't find any info on this. They are nesting and it has been this way for over 6 months. We have tried owls and scarring them off and it wont work. Can I have them taken out? Who would do this?

The best thing to do is get some rat poison and put it out for them. You could steal the eggs every time they lay. The most humane means of destroying them is a pellet gun. Go to the local government and ask them what you can legally do. No sense in getting in trouble. If you would have just taken care of them no one would know who did the deed. Now that you have complained they would  know who killed them. I don't know of any place that it is illegal to kill feral pigeons, any time of the year. It is probably another one of those SPCA deals. They want you to relocate them. My question is where too? Even common pigeons will home from as far away as 75 miles. Other places don't want the wild pigeons that they have in residence.

Just get a new dock... what would you think if some random unknown species (to the bird) came up to you and just started to execute you and your entire family just because you won't move away? That's a logical answer.

I think you should ask the Wildlife people about this.Sorry thats all I can tell you....Im not an expert.And again Im sorry.

You may not kill them.  However, there are pest control companies that will come out and pigeon-proof your house...I would imagine they would have some ideas for your situation.... totally worth it!!!

People are just plain nuts!!!!  They are flying rats for heaven's sake!!!!

No. You have no right to kill and animal just because your sick of it the thing with Pigeons is they mate for life. Well sorry to say just deal with it you don't have a right to just kill something because it has been around for 6 months or so.

Hi,

You should ask the dock master if you could have the wildlife people's phone number, address, etc. and tell them your situation. That is unnecessary to let a pigeon take over someone else's property. The wildlife people should buy a private piece of land to observe and protect pigeon life. And please don't KILL them. That's bad on your part. You can get pigeon repellent spray in some stores and spray it around your boat. But I would try to have a word with the wildlife people. You can have a pest control person come and take out the nests and spray some repellent. Tell the person from the pest control NOT TO KILL THE PIGEONS tell him to just get them outta your boat!
