Is it illegal to have a concealed handgun in your vehicle on a college campus?

I live in Houston, Texas and attend the University of Houston. I know it is illegal to carry on campus, but what about inside my vehicle away from prying eyes. I do have a concealed handgun license, but the guidelines say you can not carry in a school transport vehicle(shuttle bus) and nothing about my own vehicle. Perplexing!

  1. Not perplexing, simply illegal.

In fact, if you drive through a school zone and get pulled over with a permitted weapon in your vehicle technically you are breaking the law.

Hey TD'ers, I didn't say I like it...Just the facts. Check your C&R lawbook or some source with more integrity than google or answers.

What good is it going to do you stuffed away in the car when most shootings happen in the classroom? You gonna stroll out to the ride and come back in? Not likely!

  2. www.handgunlaw.us

this should answer you questions about ccw, off limits etc

  3. U of H is a Liberal Left School, check your student handbook.

If it says no then no, if it does not then yes.

However, in the heat we have in SE Texas I would think twice about leaving it in the vehicle.

  4. Since Texas has castle doctrine which extends to your vehicle, you can CCW in your vehicle whether or not you have a CCW permit.  This includes on a college campus.   Before you exit your vehicle, you should store your handgun.

  5. I always carried mine with me, I had a CCL, but the college I went to, had I gotten caught I would have been kicked out. I had a friend who got pulled over on campus one night, had an unloaded shotgun in his truck and got kicked out of school. But I agree with you, what good is it at home and not with you?

  6. If the school doesn't allow it, they most likely won't allow it in your car. Although, if they don't say, it may be fine. My college specifically says you can't even keep it your car. I guess the thing you have to decide is which is more likely, getting shot, or getting caught?

  7. Yes, but only if you don't believe in your 2nd Amendment Rights as stated in the U.S. Constitution.* There is nothing in the 2nd Amendment about Cars, Permits, Fees, Concealed Carry, Open Carry, College Campuses, Universities.* " The Right to Keep and Bear Arms Shall not be Infringed."  If you want to give up your Constitutional Rights you can if you want to, as for me no.*
