  1. Send it back and ask for a replacement with correct numbers otherwise go to trading standards.

    People, don't click on the link in the answer from swannxj t. It takes you to a fake 'video answer' page and asks you to install video codec. Don't do it! It's a trojan called ZLOB and your PC will be infected.

  2. Its a nicked engine. Even when an engine has been rebuilt the original number stays on, its not ground off. I would give the plod a ring. This is iffy mate, don't let them get away with it.

  3. contact the trading standards office and ask the police for advice

  4. Given that you would be required to inform the DVLA of the engine number, you would need one to do this. Contact the engine supplier and tell them that you need the correct engine with an engine number, and that you suspect this engine may be illegal. If they do not replace it with a kosher one, call you county's police and ask them.

  5. Yes, do talk to the police. This has all the hallmarks of a stolen engine. There is no other reason for grinding the numbers off. The only drawback is that you may lose both the engine and your money.

    Just contact your local police, they will bring in the right people as necessary.

    ADD Sending it back might be the safest answer from your point of view.

  6. there is no good reason why it would have no number, if it was a  rebuild then it would still be the engine and would still need the same number, the only and i mean the only reason would be it is stolen and this would mean you are in possession of stolen property, you would need to contact your local police H/Q and ask for the stolen vehicle unit

  7. Just ring your local police station ;

    There is absolutely no way that the company is genuine, there's no way an engine ever has it's number removed for legitimate reasons.

    Do it now, or next time, it may be your next car they're nicking for parts!

  8. This could mean anything, most times when motors are rebuild the orignal numbers are ground out, this is often done as a way to show that it has been rebuilt before by someone other then the manufacture of the motor.
