Its only illegal when you take credit for it or try to sell copies you made.  I think your suposed to put the persons name on it to or it can be taken wrong.

If the work is copyrighted by an artist yes it is illegal technically. But if you're just making personal copies for yourself or to give to a friend without making profit or claiming credit you should be fine.
