Is it illegal to make prank calls?

I was just wondering, is it illegal to make prank calls from a phone box, because the Fonejacker always does, so i didn't think it would be. Does anyone know?

I think it is.  You could be cited for harassment or stalking.  Not sure they would go that far, but it's a possibility.  These days with caller ID, it's so easy to trace calls.  Don't risk it.

From looking at all the other answers it does seem illegal, but if your going to prank call somebody put 141 in from of your number (wich you probably know already), but dont do it like everyday do it like once a week if your going to phone the same person.

you can be  done for section 5. public order ( breaching the peace)

Yup! Totally illegal... the harassment thing. In the States it's only a misdemeanor, unless threatening or hateful remarks are part of the call.

But really, why would you want to do this anyway? It's stupid and childish, and a waste of time. Call somebody you actually want to talk to, or do something else. Really.

Prank calls can be construed as harassment, so yes it could be. But any way you shouldn't be making them because they are a nuisance.

Yes it can be if they get a civil harassment order against you which if enforced by the judge will stay in place for 3yrs. so it's not to smart to do in this day and age.

Its not if you do it once, but if you repeat it on the same number, you can get prosecuted for harassment.
