  1. been building bikes without a front brake for years however I recently started doing a dual disk rear brake utilizing a sproter. A sproter is a combonation sprocket and brake roter. with a standard disk brake on the other side. that with a proportioning valve to send more brake juice to one side keeps the bike from kicking out to one side .allows you to lock up the rear brake and slide in straight line.

  2. Wouldnt pass its MOT like that so it shouldnt be allowed on the road. Did you know that the front brake has more stopping power than the rear brake? Its so much more important.

    Get ya brakes fixed! Haha.

  3. Would have though so, but it would also be completely insane!!!

  4. Would it pass an MOT no, it would also be pretty wreckless

  5. In the Uk, whenever a vehicle is over three years old it is examined to see see if it is road worthly. Hot having a front brake would be an automatic fail and the bike would not be allowed on the road.

I don't know what the situation is like where you are, but front brakes are very important so if I were you I would get it fixed immediately.

I do remember a television show where they made customer bikes, and one of the ones they made did not have a front brake so perhaps the law is different. The show was based in the US, but I can't remember what state it was

  6. Yes, of course, unless it was bizarrely never fitted with one at the factory.

  7. I dont think its illegal but very dangerous

  8. Check local laws. Regardless of regulations I can promise you that it is not safe.

  9. Yes. It's illegal to take an unroadworthy vehicle on the public highway if you know of the fault, regardless of whether it's properly insured, got an MOT, etc. It should be repaired before it is used.

  10. nope, just stupid

edit: apparently there is some sort of "MOT" in some places...this might prevent you from riding such a bike, here in ohio, there is no such thing...

  11.   All vehicles must conform to the construction and use regulations before they may be taken onto and used on public roads. This raft of regulations is a must to read when building specials. The front brake on a motorcycle is the most efficient, as the rear wheel can lift, when the centre of gravity shifts forward under hard braking, just having a rear brake will promote skidding, rear wheel locking, sliding etc.Locked brakes mean loss of control unless you are a braking artist as most pros are.

  12. In the U.K definitely illegal..............

  13. Lol - you got a death wish?

  14. Well in most places it wouldn't pass inspection. Its just dumb not to have a front brake.

  15. In the UK - definitely.

  16. If it should be there then its required for the MOT. This would make the bike non road legal.

  17. As I understand the law in the UK, a motorcycle must have two independently operable braking systems. It does not state that they must be on different wheels. However, as has been stated, you get the most braking performance from a properly operating front brake.

  18. This depends on the local laws.  In Wisconsin, a front brake is not required.

Personally, I agree with Magz.  Most of your stopping power comes from the front brake.
