  1. No, I have done it once when I felt pressured it is perfectly legal, but it is better to learn with your plam open so don't get in to a habbit of serving with your fist.  And most coaches don't llike when you serve with your fist.

    Keep playin,

    Live the volleyball gal

  2. No its not.

People should usually start serving overhand if they dont have enough strength to get the ball over the net with their fist first cause its much easier. Seriously.

And IT DOESNT HURT YOUR FIST OR CAUSE ANY WRIST PROBLEMS.

Its not difficult to control anyway. In fact, if you can do it right, it is one of the ways to do the really hard power serve.

  3. not really, but using your palm is much more effective since your getting more surface area on the ball. talk with your coach to see what's best for you.

  4. It's legal.

But it's wrong and you don't have good control. Use your palm.

  5. no, its legal, but you cant really serve to a zone with it. also coaches prefer having u serve with an open hand. try them both out and c what works best for u

  6. It's legal, but you should never try it unless you don't know how to play volleyball

  7. no its not illegal but its not recommended.if you serve with the palm of your hand you have a lot more control over the ball than serving with your fist.

if you can serve with your fist, you can probably serve with the palm of your hand.you'll just have to practice at it.a girl on my team serves with her fist sometimes too, but when my coach tells her to serve with the palm of her hand she can serve just a well.just keep practicing :)

  8. No its not illegal to serve with your fist, sometimes when i am doing volleyball practice i serve the ball with my fist if i no i wont be able to make it over the net with my palm but you are really suppose to serve the ball with your palm but o well.

  9. Nope, but like the others said, its just as easy to hit open handed, just a mental block, and you have more control over it.

Practice it to know that you CAN do it, but try to better your game by switching when you feel ready.....after all, you have done it before....

    Luck :)

  10. no it is legal to do it but if you have to serve more than once your fist is going to hurt like crazy & you will probably have fist problems later on in life & you dont have alot of control over the ball when your serve....you are really suppose to use your palm to hit the ball...put people do serve it with there fist

  11. WELL, IT'S LEGAL!!

I usually serve with fist when I'm too tired for serve or All my serve can easily take by my enemy.

This serve is very unpredictinable. And Your control will be at least 80%. But if you like this serve, not by palm. Do this!

This kind of serve not reduce many power. But if your coach excuse you!

Better ask to your coach. my coach didn't let me do this in real Championship..\

    Good Luck!!

  12. No its legal...You just dont have good controle over it..

  13. I don't think most people can visualize you serving with a fist, haha, and that's why they're saying it's wrong.

For me, as a coach for 12-13 y.o. girls, for the ones who aren't strong enough to get an overhand serve over the net, I tell them to serve with a fist.

I've also tried serving with a fist, and found it's easier.

Just make sure you're making your fist properly.  Make it so you fold your hand so your fingertips touch the bottom half of your palm, so it creates a fairly flat surface.  Keep your thumb beside your hand, NOT in front.  Then, when you serve, you want to contact the ball between the bottom of your palm and your finger bends (the flat surface I was talking about).

Please check with your coach first, as some coaches have never heard of serving like this, or they don't approve.  Just tell them you're not strong enough, or that you're more accurate serving with a closed fist.  Then demonstrate for them if they don't believe you :)

After a while, you may get good/strong enough to start serving with an open hand.

BTW, to answer your question...serving with a fist ISN'T illegal.

    Edit:

All the posters who say you don't have good control with a fist serve is wrong...one of the best/most accurate servers of my grade 12 team served with a fist.

  14. Not illegal, just not good form for an overhand serve.

An overhand serve is best made w/an open hand.  You don't want to use the 'heel' of the hand, but the entire hand.  When teaching kids, I tell them to think of someone they would like to slap in the face.  Then think of the ball as that person's face.  When they hit the ball, slap it like it's that person's face!  It almost always helps them.

An underhand serve is best made w/a fist.  Look at the fist as a 'cone' & the ball is ice cream.  You hit the ball (ice cream) out of the hand using the other hand (cone). Good way to teach younger players so they can get the confidence of serving over the net.  As they progress, they will WANT to work on their overhand serve.

  15. No, it's legal.  But you lose all control when you use your fist.  Serving with your palm allows you to serve a float, a top spin, or any other type of serve and it allows you to control what zone the ball lands in or heads toward.

Coaches generally prefer you to use your palm because you're a more effective player serving this way.

  16. It is legal to serve with your fist. However, if you are strong enough, i would start serving the proper way because with your palms, you get a better control of the ball, but if you aren't ready yet, i would either work on underhand, and train until you're ready, because getting in the habit of using you're fist will interfere with you're aiming with other techniques like your hitting and possibly bumping, so make sure you're strong enough first.

When you are, start off closer to the net and work your way to the serving line

Good luck with you're serving! ♥|
