Is it illegal to tape posters to traffic lights?

I am planning on having a car wash in New Jersey, and would like to tape a few posters to traffic lights to draw attention to its location. I've seen people stake posters in the ground next to the lights, but I'm not sure about taping them to the traffic lights.

Different cities have different laws.  There may be a fine for doing just that.  Since you are advertising where you will be when the sign is up, you should check first before getting busted.
