Is it illegal to tint your front side (passenger & driver windows) in California?

I took off my old tint and went to re-tint and they said it was illegal...So i didn't do it

Also do any of you know where I can get a transparent red duct tape?

I want to put it on my broken back light to avoid buying the whole light...

yeah its illegal i had to take my tint off the cops where on my ***
