  1. yes it's legal,

it depends which engine (and injector pump) you have as to weather it would run on straight veg oil without modification,

and no it's not necessary to refine it (i take it you're talking about new oil),

and no you don't need to pay duty on it unless you use thousands of litres a year

  2. You can run SVO (straight vegetable oil) but you will need a pre heater to warm the oil and a filter to pull all the impurities out of the oil. During the cold season you will want to mix it with diesel so it will not coagulate and plug the fuel line.

A friend of mine has 2 tanks in his diesel. The factory tank and a SVO tank. He uses the factory tank to start his engine and warm it up and to clean out the SVO before he turns it off. Once the engine is warm, he flips a switch and burns the SVO. It works great.

  3. #1 - cooking oil will NOT work in your diesel

#2 - you need to convert it to bio-diesel

#3 - you still need to pass emission with diesel or bio-diesel.

    Good Luck....

  4. Do you mean in the engine or to cook your chips on a camping stove?

  5. No, but will the van run on the stuff?

  6. Unless you have a full conversion, I think you'd need to refine it a little first, mix it or convert it to bio diesel unless you wanted to knacker your engine but I'm not sure about the legality of using your own fuel in Ireland... The UK government won't allow it because it wants the tax too much.  If your fuel is taxed there, then common sense would suggest that it would be "illegal" to use your own fuel and thus deprive the government of its "hard earned" cash!

You could try and pay the tax but I think there would then be a whole range of tests, checks and red tape to fulfil before you'd b able to legally process, produce and use your own fuel.

  7. Agree with David F and the mechanic.

Suggest a pretty apron when pouring.

  8. That I don't know but I don't think I'd risk putting cooking oil in the tank.

  9. Loads of wrong answers here tonite.

It will work but you should refine it a little or put in a heat exchanger to warm (thin) the oil.

No duty govt scrapped it earlier this year, wud be able to give you links but a bit mashed on cheap french wine, e mail me tomorrow

    df

  10. It is legal as long as you pay the excise duty at 36.8c per litre.

  11. it wont work....itll fu*k ur engine up and give it problems.....otherwise everyone would be doing it.
