Is it illogical to only believe in one of the many mythologies of the human race?

I don't mind people saying they believe something on faith, but when you start to make comparisons I never get a clear answer. Why do you believe Abrahamic god over unicorns or Zeus? Seriously I've never heard an answer beyond "[Holy Text]!". But they all have holy text.

Let your reasoning into all parts of your life.

  1. For me, I have sense of everything being connected (which science is now also verifying), so one universal God energy makes sense to me.  Then add that the Jewish God is abstract & vaguely described, that it become possible to believe in it.  Things like unicorns are to minor & too concretely described for me to ascribe to them without some evidence of them.

The Jewish God is not necessarily the same as the Christian concept of God.  One would have to willing to understand the Jewish concept from my comments to make sense.

In Judaism we believe we do NOT have the only pathway to God.  So if other people are getting to the same abstract universal God concept, but calling it something else -- that's fine too & we'd consider it belief in the same thing.

One more important concept to the question.  Religion is about answering phillosophical questions of life, the whys.  Science is about answering the hows.  They have different purposes.  Until science can answer some of the big why pictures, we can't use it to answer the whys.  Athiesm answers the why in a very specific way -- by saying there is no reason.  It does not just say, we can't know the reasons.  All valid, but not the only answers to consider.

  2. Lol , you have a point;. But I think everyone chooses a path that 'speaks' to them most ; one that seems the most real to them.

  3. I don't believe in mythology; I only believe in God.  It's very unfortunate if some people can't differentiate between the two.

  4. I think that it is a good thing to get perspective.

Sometimes it totally changes your outlook on life

Sometimes it gives your beliefs deeper meaning.

(btw, logic is a discipline that was born from religion)

believe it or not, that is what it was first called...

  5. I'm Asatruar, and most pagans don't really care that much about other religions.  They exist, people believe in it, fine.  We have an inner reason to believe in something over another, because it rings more true to us, but to claim its the TRUTH?  No .... we're not that conceited.  Why do not believe in some other things?  Well, that's just it, its belief.  I've yet to see evidence of a scientific factual kind to support ANY religion, including my own.  I admit its entirely based on FAITH, in that I believe its true.  I don't give thought to the idea that maybe something else is out there.  When it comes to other religions, i respect the person (at first, and will continue to do so until they disrespect my faith), I respect that their faith is just as valid as mine, I respect that my faith is not the faith for them (because religion is a personal matter), but i couldn't care less over whether their gods are actually REAL or not.  Maybe they are, maybe they aren't, its not what I believe in.

  6. It is illogical to dismiss 100,000 years of human expericance and the symbolic link to the subconcious that all humans have in common.

The fact is that the metaphor is different the place it reaches is the same.

If you call the Father Zues Or Yawee. He still is the father.,

If you call the Son Jesus or Osirus he is still the Hero who frees us.

HE is still the symbol of the circle the seed that must die to be reborn.

The story has never changed its the same one using the local language and symbol.IT

THE truth is that the deeper meaning still touches the human soul.,

THe Inner meaning must reach the people.

WHen the old metaphor no longer does that then God is dead.HE becomes the ogre the horrible father. A new symbol is reborn and saves us.Revelation

It happened when Buddha came to the forrests of india the old world died,

It happened when Jesus came to Isreal the old world died

it happened when the Bishops came to detroy the whole world of Odin

    Became as important as UNicorns

but the seed is the same

The software changes the hardwired human mind stays the same

We are right now in between we are searching for that New symbol that new revelation that will awaken us to the trancendent

The old symbols no longer work, so most worship Stuff

Others hunker down and hope god destroys the world

and some are working on the new Symbols

But we dont turn our backs on 100,000 years of who we are

Even that Unicorn is important and it is Very real if you know what it really is.

ON a round planet there are NO sides the new symbol must be that picture of US from the moon

That we are all one tribe. If we ignore that place that cannot be desribed using words. if we Ignore that AUM that all humans share then we just worship stuff and we will use it all up.

Humans MUST have mythology it is hardwired into our brains

  7. Well, many of them aren't illogical in real life, only in their ideology.

They avoid the cognitive dissonance by compartmentalizing. Ah, the old days.. How nostalgic.

  8. The difference is that the Christian holy texts stand up to stringent examination. Nothing in the holy Bible has ever been disproven, and archeological discoveries only confirm its accuracy.

The Holy Bible is the only thing in this world upon which we can rely.
