  1. what in the heck could be immoral about that, but is it the best way to handle the situation. Also you have to see the whole picture if you are going to go around thinking you are immoral. what about him? Is it immoral for him to still be owing you money. No, but its still the same kind of question that you asked about yourself. You want your money, how you go about getting it is ok as long as there is no intent to hurt anyone. Clearly your intent is just to get your money, not to  hurt anyone

  2. Just do it nicely!  Someone approached me about money they'd lent my partner ....... I had no idea and I was furious!!!!!  I put that debt to the top of the list.

  3. I think that it's not good etiquette.  Financials are a private matter, and if the agreement is between you and him, then it should stay that way!  For instance banks don't contact partners of those owing money (or at least legally they can't unless it's a joint agreement!).

Having said that, I completely get your situation.  I leant some money to a friend over a year ago and still haven't gotten it back.  I gave up on trying and wrote it off (I valued the friendship more!), but I learnt the lesson to not lend money to friends again!

Furthermore if he owes you money, and refusing or reluctant to pay it back, he's not exactly adhering to the rules of decency.  I say go for it if you think that's your best option!

  4. Morality is not the question here but tact.  Leave it between you two, that's just messy to involve someone else and they'll want to be left out, too.
