  1. Yes, you should ask if advice is wanted, if it is not, then you are to keep your mouth shut and listen.  Or if you are uncomfortable not listening you should probably change the subject entirely.  Unsolicited advice is one of the most insulting things you can offer some one.

  5. Yes, and perfectly acceptable to thank them and ignore the advice, unless of course the advice is valuable such as "Watch out for that last step, it's a doozie!"

    i guess it depends on the person.

    lots of people feel offended if u give them advice, or as though you're patronising and looking down on them.

    i'd say, don't give advice unless ur asked for it, if u wanna be safe.

  7. If someone is foolish enough to discuss their problems then they should expect to be advised.  It's human nature to want to help someone through a difficult time.
