Is it important that sugar level returns to normal two hours after a meal?

Mine always returns to normal by my next meal,I have diabetes two,I have managed to get my three months hemoglobin test down to six point seven from seven point three,and I intend to continue to work to get it lower,my doctor insist that the sugar level should drop inside of two hours,I do not feel any different regardless what my sugar level is, high, low or otherwise. I am slim and do not carry any extra weight, thank you

Type 2 diabetics have elevated blood sugars but it's not always possible to get our blood sugars back to normal within two hours after a meal, it really depends on what was eaten and the portion size (amount of carbohydrates in the meal).

Your A1c's are dropping nicely (from 7.3 to 6.7)  but your not there yet.

The ultimate goal is to have your A1c be below 6% (non-diabetic) and your Glycomark test  (post-prandial) to be above 14 (different scales are used to measure both tests)  so don't get confused by the numbers.

Very important to make blood glucose 2 hours after meal in normal, cause high blood glucose post prandial (2 hours after meal) for long time maybe 5 years, 10 or 20 years next (uncontrol) will give you risk complication disease makrovaskular/mikrovascular like heart disease, stroke, kidney failure.  people with diabetes does't die cause diabetes but most die cause complication

In a normal person, the blood sugar returns to normal (80-120) within 60-90 minutes.  This is due to the "ruch" of insulin that occurs after we eat.  In diabetcis, our systenms are "slower", so returning to normal on 2 hours is about right.  If you are an "insulin dependent" diabetic then you sugas will NOT return to normal unless you take your shots.

But it is EXTREMLY important that your blood sugar return to normal! What makes diabetes dangerous is the EXTENEDED amount of time that blood sugar is high.  The sooner you can get it to drop back to normal, the better off your life will be.

What happens is that excess sugar "attaches" to red blood cells, like little sugar crystals.  And once attached, they don't let go until the red blood ceel dies -- 90-120 days.  of course, you body is making new red blood cells every minute of every day (and killing old ones, as well).  SO, any red blood cells made while your sugar is HIGH are made with the sugar crystals attached -- and they stay that way for 90 days or so.

[The A1C (three month hemoglobin test) measures how much sugar is attached to your red blood cells over a 90 day average.  It reads in percent.  So you are reading 6.7 PERCENT sugar attachment.]

The trouble is, those sugar "crystals" act like little knives, slicing and dicing and damaging everything they touch.  This is especially important in the capillaries, which are not much bigger than a red blood cell themselves.

When the capillaries are damaged, microclots and scar tissues form, making it hard for the red vloos cells to pass through.  This casues high blood pressure.  Your kidneys are FULLL of capillaries, and when these are damaged you end up with kidney disease.  If the capillaries in your eyes are affected, you end up with dettached retinas, and even blindness.

So it is EXTREMLY important that you keep you blood sugars as close to normal for as much as possible, and that means getting them back to normal as soon as possible after eatting -- 2 hours or sooner if possible.

This is what the insulin shots do.  They handle that "spike" and bring it down, usually within 60-90 minutes.

From your readings, it would appear that you are doing a great job of controlling things! Good for you!  An A1C drop drom 7.3 to 6.7 is a HUGE improvement.  Most doctor would be happy if you kept it there!  If you can get it down to 6.0 or better (normal is between 5 and 6) you would be normal.  You would completely avoid the expected dire results of diabetes by keeping the A1C below 6.0
