If you're a second time bride, should you avoid wearing a train on your wedding gown?

  1. You should be avoiding a wedding gown, period. Just a simpler long or short dress, and white is fine.

  2. Did you have a church wedding with the dress with the train and veil the first time around?  If so, then don't wear it this time.

If your first wedding was 15 minutes at the county courthouse, then fine, do the big dress and the big party and the whole 9 yards.

What's tacky is trying to act like every wedding is your first.  Even if no one really cares what color you wear or how ornate the dress is, I think you'll find that most people expect to see more restraint shown with subsequent weddings.

I used to work with a girl whose second wedding was bigger than her first (but it was the groom's THIRD), and even her third wedding was the big poufy white dress with veil and train.  I didn't bother going to her fourth wedding.

On the other hand, one of my childhood friends got married when we were juniors in high school.  Her boyfriend was dying of leukemia.  So her parents signed for her and they had a very pretty church wedding. Not huge, because of his health, but still an obvious first-time wedding.  He died three years later.  It was several years before she married husband number two, and this wedding was a great big to-do.  It seemed appropriate to everyone since this wedding marked a new life in so many ways.

So your individual circumstances make a difference.

  3. I remember times when it was inappropriate for a 2nd time bride to wear white!  I always thought that was dumb, however.

I say, if you want the train get the train.

  4. If you want to wear a wedding gown with a train then do. It's your day!!

  5. No do what you want! I'm a first time bride and I can wear white(if you get my drift) but I am eyeing a dress with no train and champagne colored because I look darn good in it! Wear what you want!

  6. Nothing is inappropriate on your wedding day.   As long as you and your groom are happy with what you are planning, go ahead and do it.   Don't worry what anyone thinks, and honestly, NO ONE would think anything bad about you having a train except that it's beautiful!
