  2. Yes its Incredible

    Yes its Expensive

As  A Visitor though you will get more for your dollar when you enter the country so enjoy the conversion rate....

I think to sum it up....being right smack in the middle of the Pacific Ocean with beaches and forests lining the coast ,always within an hour or two are modern complexes and conveniences nearby.....

    Towns are pretty

    Cities Clean

Ethnic people from many different countries specially in the bigger cities

    Family parks and reserves

    Teeming with outdoor life

    Fantastic bus system

    International Airports

    Restaurants and Fastfood

    Alluring Maori Culture

    and best of all

Welcoming....so what are ya waiting for

    Come on down....

  3. Im sick off the immigrants

  4. It's pretty alright...

Nah that's not true at all.. We welcome everyone to our country, I'm not sure where you heard that from!

    ...

  5. Yes

No (Usually, it depends on whether you are obnoxious or not)

and you add-on Yes (But you should be able to juggle things to have a comfortable life)

  6. I lived in New Zealand for 7months and found it a wonderful place to live. It has heaps of natural beauty, lots of open space, friendly people, and a laid-back atmosphere.

Many 'foreigners' have caught on to what a great place New Zealand is to live...it is also relatively easy to get a temporary work visa there. So, the country gets a lot of travelers from all over the world who descend upon its shores(me being one of them!). Some of the locals are a bit sensitive about this fact and can take a while to warm up. However, Kiwis in general are incredibly friendly people and you will rarely encounter this sentiment.

I found the price of living in New Zealand to be fairly similar to that of U.S. living...maybe a little less. Plus the dollar conversion is slightly in your favor.

If you are thinking of visiting or moving to New Zealand, I encourage you to do so. I have wonderful memories, stunning pictures, and many friends from my time there.

    Happy Travels!

  7. its not that expensive to live in NZ, although there arent alot of jobs. kiwi's are very welcoming, and there are soooo many different cultures in NZ. we moved to Australia from Nz, only because there isnt alot of work there, and we wanted a change of scenery.

  8. NZ is the best country in the world to grow up, and to grow old.  The quality of life is very good in NZ, and you do not need to earn loads of money to have a good healthy lifestyle which is one of the best things about NZ.

However it is important to point out that nowhere is without its faults and I see many people from far away imagine as NZ as a perfect country which is simply inaccurate. Please do not think that everything is perfect in NZ.

First weather: Its NOT TROPICAL - its temperate. (Which is in fact great so you can ski in the winter and doesn't get too hot in the summer) but some people think its the same weather as Australia.

People/Society:  although the overwhelming majority of people are great and friendly you do have a lot of close-minded people (natural function of living on an island)  Crime is pretty bad, with plenty of burglaries and fair bit of violent crime relative to the population - and serious drug abuse problems.

A large percentage of young Kiwis have travelled a bit so as a foreigner you should be ok.  If you move to Wellington or Auckland its fine.  Very mixed bunch - in fact in Wellington its cool to be from somewhere else.

Also, its very very quiet.  You don't realise this until you leave and live somewhere else but if you like the idea of being on an island far far away from the rest of the world then NZ is for you. It can be a very good thing depending on what stage of life you are at.

Definitely go there but test it out with a 4 week holiday first.

    Hope this helps.......

  9. Having come from Australia I have to say I don't find it incredibly awesome living in New Zealand by comparison, but relatives who have visited have really loved it.

The office in which I work consists of 90% immigrants and it is all one happy family. I would say most people are accepting of immigrants on a one to one basis, but the "dog in the manger" attitude is expressed a bit in generalization - this is because there has been a huge infux of Asians and Indians over recent years. As someone else said, they are generally conservative and don't have that exuberant friendliness that I found in America when I visited. If a New Zealander wins something on the TV or radio they usually say thankyou with very little display of excitement - that's just the way they are. But their friendliness runs deeper than a beaming smile and welcome hello and some areas I have lived - Wellington and Rotorua in particular, the people were just fantastic. And I second what another person said, it isn't a safe place to live anymore.

Oh - it's more expensive to live here than Australia, but about the same or cheaper than America - depends what country you are comparing it with. That's because the pay is apparently 30% less than Australia and the taxes higher.

  10. it is just incredibly awesome to live here in nz.

i'v lived here for about 11-12 years now, came when i was quite little.

it's kewlies, pretty expensive compared to aussie, petrol prices are soaring, but $10txt is good.

I live in aux...and my local shopping centre is newmarket...and thats pretty much the most boring place on the planet after a year. luckily there are other centres rebuilding and starting up, silvia park, the one on the shore, botany's pretty good. st lukes is good too.

weather's alright...mainly wind and rain, then harsh sun and cold shadows. snow down south.

    about 'new residents'..

well it really depends on where abouts you're coming from, who you're hanging around/where, and your features.

    if you're asian/look asian, then you're screwed.

lawl mainly only in the streets and primary school, but otherwise it's actually now so common that there's no point harrassing as much anymore. but please, please take the driving license test. 5 times, to be sure.

if you have red hair, expect to be reminded about it. a LOT. especially in school. if it's co-ed, then every day, insults, etc.

we tend to really work around our stereotypes, on the basis of what surrounds us. eg.:

ASIANS have soup for breakfast, don't communicate with the neighbourhood, play badminton, SUCK at driving.

MAORIS(includes all polynesians...gees) either are really loud, or 'ghetto', or in a gang. or a really big family. just like the asians.

INDIANS are almost asians...they own the dairys and work at telecom. have MEAN cars and kashi kicks, p.i.m.ping themselves out wherever they go. curry...

AMERICANS are whatever...so much to say about them....they're all different. i personally disagree with g.b, but that doesn't necessarily influence each and everyone.

MIDDLE-EASTERN people are strong, firm, like they're gonna drop a b.o.m.b at any moment. kind of scary...

that's really how i see it, and so when we see certain people around the place, the first impression is somewhat how i explained. but at school, they're all just people so move on.

  11. As one of my colleagues tends to say, "it's a little bit like most things":

If you have good employment, life is good, and around here in NZ, hm, possibly a bit better than in some places. To be realistic about it, I'd say it's possibly just a little less cordial than the UK or Canada, but still exceptionally friendly otherwise; the social system, UHC, and work/ life balance are comparable to northern Europe, but taxation is lower. Wages aren't exactly fabulous, but once you do the math and realise how many things are either really cheap here or don't even occur, it's fine.

As for foreigners being unwelcome: No way, that's not the case. NZ and Canada are the two most welcoming places wih regards to this aspect that I've experienced. Coming from somewhere else is taken in stride, and not unusual, either.

So, on the whole, all these things are nice, but kind of average - you could live equally nicely in places like Sweden, Wales, Germany, Austria, Switzerland, or Holland.

But what's awesome about NZ in my opinion is that you get totally unbelievable nature and landscapes in front of your door, on your way to work if you like, and green, mild winters - which none of the above really give you.

  12. I'm from Canada, but lived in NZ for half a year a couple of years ago....it was definitely an interesting experience. It is a BEAUTIFUL country...truly amazzzing...however, I found it to be a bit conservative...

I didn't find that people were hugely open to me as a 'foreigner'

For instance, for myself, when I notice that someone is just visiting my city, I go out of my way to chat with them, ask them where they're from, what they plan on doing/seeing in the city ect ect...But sadly I didn't  experience that at all while in NZ......

Most young people live in houses with other people. There aren't very many apartments. Rent is charged weekly, rather than monthly. One thing that was VERY hard to get over was the fact that they do not have interior heating (not the right term), the only heating in most houses are plug in heaters. So in the winter I went to bed with a hot water bottle!!

However, in the summer, the beaches are AMAZZZING...and nice and hot!!!

If you want more info from a foreigners perspective, feel free to send me an email!!

  13. I find New Zealand and the kiwis, awesome. I have not yet encountered a problem with the kiwi and have made many great friends. The country is extremely beautiful and clean and at least there is still some law and order around here although the crime rate is starting to climb. The only problem that I had adjusting to NZ was the housing situation. Alot of the houses are built from timber and are in very poor condition. They are also practically placed right on top of one another and it's a bit chaotic. The price of houses are very high compared to other countries and that surprised me most as well as the low pay rates. Other than that, New Zealand is one h**l of a great country!

  14. Its a great place to live if your into the outdoors. All cultures except asians are welcomed warmly (mainly due to their large permanent population in NZ & inability to integrate with NZ society).

Christchurch is the best city although very conservative, Wellington is worth a week or two holiday, Auckland is rife with crime - dont even bother going there unless you want to be robbed, raped, murdered then raped again, chopped up into little pieces then thrown in a bag into the river...

The best scenery is in the South Island!

Depends on your lifestyle - I have a friend who works a few days a month & this is enough to pay rent in a humble abode, she grows her own food & isnt interested in materialism/consumerism. On the other hand there is plenty of places to spend hard earned dough!!!

  15. I want to live there! It's soooooo beautiful there... Can I come too?! lol
