Is it just me, or are the people in Manhattan all tall?

I am 5'9" and a half around. It depends on how I stand, but sometimes I can be seen as 5'8", and something I can be seen as 5'10" if I stand straight. Anyways, today I visited my friend with my friend (he's 6'3") and it seemed like almost every guy there was taller than me. About 50% if not more of the guys were 6 feet or above, and some of them were like 6'6". I was taller than most of the girls (80%), besides for some tall chicks who wear heels and are like my height.

Anyways, does anybody ever realize this? In Brooklyn, the people are generally way shorter than in Manhattan.

  1. One word = models.

  2. Well, I have noticed a lot of tall people lately in the city but I've been thinking it's due to the tourists from countries whose monetary exchange is Euro based, e.g. Germany, Sweden, France, etc.  I don't know if the people in those countries are any taller than those from Brooklyn but they seem that way to me.  :)

  3. if you look back to your high school biology days, you should remember 'survival of the fittest'. Now remember, NY is a walking city, and manhattan is the borough where you would likly do the most walking, now- the taller the people and longer the legs- a less of a hassle to them then to some1 who is under 5'4'', now majority of short people who couldnt take the walking stay out of the city & now we are starting to see a pattern of the people who are able to 'survive' in manhattan that are able to tolerate all this walking (which is unavoidable for the majority)- the 'tall' people
