Question:

Is it just me, or does anyone else think that Al Gore really is Chicken Little?

He seems to be running around saying " The Earth is hotter!, The Earth is hotter! "

But he will fly all over the place in a private jet, and lives in a huge energy sucking mansion, which is as I have heard is a really nice one, telling everyone to use less. I don't get it.

  1. Even if everyone did use less, the earth will still get 'hotter'  Global warming will only decrease with different types of energy use that either haven't been invented, or are not feasible at this point in time.

    It is just you.

  2. True.

And everyone else has their heads stuck in the sand...

Global Warming is real but it's part of a NATURAL cycle. Even Mars is going through global warming. I don't think we had anything to do with that... The only thing to worry about is the radical increase in CO2. That isn't part of the natural cycle. What that will cause is yet to be seen. The effect could be anything from 'nothing' to 'runaway greenhouse effect'.

Despite what Al Gore might say... the truth is, global warming or not, we live like gluttonous PIGS and should change our ways regardless of environmental issues.

  3. Telling everyone that Al Gore is really Chicken Little is just an Inconvenient Truth.

  4. Forget Al Gore's personal life.  It doesn't matter one little bit.    He has absolutely nothing to do with the science and the data that says global warming is real.

99+% of scientists around the world believe global warming is real and mostly caused by us.  And any number of very distinguished people, too.

"I wasn’t convinced by a person or any interest group—it was the data that got me. I was utterly convinced of this connection between the burning of fossil fuels and climate change. And I was convinced that if we didn’t do something about this, we would be in deep trouble.”

Vice Admiral Richard H. Truly, USN (Ret.)

Former NASA Administrator, Shuttle Astronaut and the first Commander of the Naval Space Command

Here are two summaries of the mountain of data that convinced Admiral Truly, short and long.

"There's a better scientific consensus on this [climate change] than on any issue I know - except maybe Newton's second law of dynamics.  Global warming is almost a no-brainer at this point,You really can't find intelligent, quantitative arguments to make it go away."

    Jerry Mahlman, NOAA

  5. What he's saying is completely true. What he's doing is hypocritical. Focus on what is being said, not who is saying it.

  6. Al Gore is a science fiction writer who is trying to make a name for himself. I can see in a few hundred years the people watching that film and laughing like we did at how people used to think the Earth was flat.

  7. It's just you.

  8. ocedman below expresses it quite well. just because two things happen at once does not mean that one causes the other. It is just as logical to assume that co2 is rising because temputures are as the other way around.

      I am more emotional sooo

Though I think he has the best of intentions and while I do not like his politics but think he is a average guy- it is more like chicken sh**. The whole "man is causing global warming" thing is a scam. it is caused by natural variations of the sun and it's energy out put. In the Middle ages they were able to grow grapes in England because it was so warm. Then just 200 years later it was colder in the Netherlands than it is now. We contribute about 1% of the so called carbon green house gases to the air- the water vapor coming off the ocean is the biggest "grennhouse gas".

In the early 20th century - scientists said they had proof and politicians were all convinced that we had to breed out the "bad genes" of humanity because it would ruin humanity and we would all end up being retarted. Yet when Hitler took this science too seriously and actually moved toward it's extremes the world was confronted with the utlimate conclusion of such "race purity " dribble, the scientist that jumped on the eugenics bandwagon were judged  to be obviously wrong and self serving in that it created funding opportunties for eugenics research etc . Funding for Gobal warming has become the largest cash cow inteh science research community- I bet I could even get a grant as a master's level student to study something like" the effects of the manufacture and shipment of little toy whistles on global warming"

These same chicken little people were saying 40 years ago that  by now there would be too many people in the world to feed- well there is plenty fo food -it just is poorly distributed because of foolish, selfish dicatators govts etc.

Check out the latest bit of news- growing rice causes global warming etc  , cow farts cause global warming, etc

Check out the deal on "science" as well - even major liberals like author micheal crichton are begining  to doubt the panic

  9. Fact = the average temperature of the earth has increased in the last century.

Fact = carbon dioxide levels have increased dramatically since the mid-1800's (Industrial Revolution).  We are no doubt a major cause of the increase in CO2.

Still in question = the link between carbon dioxide and warming.  Contrary to what Al Gore states, the science is not all in.  Human activity may very well be the cause.  Carbon dioxide is one "greenhouse gas."  Water vapor and methane are two other contributors.  The historical geologic record, however, has never shown a link between CO2 and warming.  In fact, carbon dioxide concentrations rose dramatically in the 30 years following World War II, yet the earth cooled during that time.  Remember Global Cooling?  There have also been periods much warmer than modern time, with much lower CO2 concentrations (dating back to approximately 1000 years ago...long before we were burning fossil fuels).  Interesting, huh?

It does appear hypocritical that "green" politicians like Al Gore do not practice what they preach.

My philosophy - error on the side of caution.  Be green but be smart.  Kyoto is not the answer...too darn expensive, with very minor impact.  Let's keep researching this and stop trying to play on the fears and emotions of people.
