Is it just me, or has the media gone completely overboard with M. Phelps?

The U.S. media is treating him like a God. He dosent rank as the top 5 greatest olympians let alone "the greatest". The man has a deformity in his ankles, so he really dosent count as a great olympian, just a genetic freak..

Most jocks don't translate to the real world very well. Mark Spitz was great but thats as far as his career went.

Mark Phelps is going to get millions just to use his name

and Barack Obama is living on the fact he is a half black man running

for Preesident of the United States..he is an empty suit but he will get

a lot of votes just because he is "different" does that make sense?

Genetic freak? This is what you have to say about Michael Phelps? He did more at 23 than most of us put together will ever do in our whole lives. And he didn't ask for this media attention. If they go overboard it's their fault, not his.  He did something that hasn't been done since 1972 so um yeah, I think they have a right to focus on it. Don't worry, in a couple of weeks it will die down. I personally got sick of hearing about Shawn Johnson. But do I think she's a great athlete? YES! Do I post rude comments about her? NO! I just ignore what I don't want to see or hear. There's a little thing called a remote control. Use it to change the channel!

One other thing, you don't have to find Michael good looking, but why judge him for that? Look at him for his accomplishments and there's no denying (Like him or not) that he sure has done a lot!

Yes, He did OK and so do everyone who gets to go to the olympics

but way to much money and time is spent on these sports.

They should work harder on getting an education instead of pushing

i agree with you. I hear about him pretty much every day and it is annoying as h**l. I mean what he accomplished is good, but its overshadowing and ignoring all the other athletes who have done great things at the Olympics.

Michael Phelps is one of most dedicated and disciplined athletes in Olympic games history. His work ethnic is outstanding. He just accomplished something that may never be done again in our lifetime.

(8 Gold Metals in 8 events)  I personally think he is the male athlete of the year.

If you don't like Phelps or swimming that's fine.  But you should give credit where credit is due.  The years of practice in the pool, working on all four swimming disciplines has paid off for Michael. You have to be dedicated.  Having a great body for swimming is simply not enough.  You must work hard!

     Congratulations, Michael you're all heart!

P.S. Michael Phelps has no control over the media.

but they did the same thing to Mark Spitz and all the other athletes in the past.  It is overkill but it seems to sell newspapers and air time.

Obama is not getting the good results in the polls and the press is gleefully reporting his fall from being called the "Messiah" ..I think its silly to put anyone on a pedestal...this would be despicable

why cause he's not black? is that pissing you off. all my black friends seem to dislike M. Phelps. if its not basket ball or running they don't care about it. seems stupid and me and yes he is the greatest olympian right now get over it.

It's not just you the media has gone way overboard with phelps the only reason he can swim so fast is that is arms are too long for his body
