Some months ago , i discovered a music bad called "sigur ros" they are from Iceland and i felt sooo touched by their music and also a little bit strange with the fact that it was the first time that i was seeing music videos with scenarios of real life , but at the same time accompanied with unreal out of this world melodies and tones. In one of their videos you can see people with dawn syndrome , the issue of g*y people , death at an early age , elderly people, contamination of the environment , ect they do not try to hide the reality of humanity as the united states does , i am sure that if two guys kiss in a music video in the US some moron will start protesting and it would be censored REALLY FAST, while skinny @sses go around the screen giving the wrong beauty and role message to both girls and boys of what they are supposed to be and what product would make us cool and blah blah blah , now THAT should be unacceptable ! btw here s one song of them http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=34ZtT4Th9Ys&feature=related

i wonder why do people accept superficiality as the NORM in US media , but when a REAL issue comes up a lot of people freak out ?

why so in denial ?

  1. The media has found that Americans do not like to see "reality."  I remember seeing some images from other countries during the Vietnam War that were never shown in the States.  I think that if the American people saw what is going on in Iraq they would be shocked.  But this President has very powerful friend in powerful places, mostly Murdoch.  It appears the Australians didn't want him anymore and he was welcomed to our shores.

  2. The US has been pegged of being prudish, but over the years has slowly opened up.  I don't think the general population would "freak out", but I do think a select few would.

However, US media is obviously in high demand around the world.  There are very few nations that import media into the US, but many that receive US media.

Maybe it is not just the US that is so superficial.

  4. I think mainstream U.S. media is garbage, yes, but there are plenty of good media vehicles available. You have to know where to look. For starters, if you're into progressive or world music, try listening to National Public Radio and their Sunday program called "Echoes."

  5. Hahahahaha.  Wow, thank you for the laugh.  First of all, though there are a few items that US media intentionally doesn't show, it is still one of the most "real" media on earth due to its low standards of censorship.  Second, I find it absurd that anyone claiming to be part of a progressive movement would snub the media.  No offense, but TV has held the largest role in pushing social conditions forward of any force in the history of America.  Race issues: Dr King's got nothing on TV.  Would black protestors being sprayed with fire hoses have had the same effect if we only read about it?  Many shows in the sixties portrayed racists as idiots even though the vast majority of white Americans were racist to some degree at the time.  This created the perception that most Americans hated racism and changed society.  On g*y issues: nearly every show has at least one g*y character.  Only an estimated 2% of the population is actually g*y.  However, the effect is that Americans are now more accustomed to seeing g*y people and are far more accepting of it.  Through TV we have seen women do just about everything. They have been the President, CEOs of major companies, generals and every occupation imaginable.  Some of which they have never attained in real life.  TV however does get Americans accustomed to seeing it.  Therefore, it doesn't get rejected because the idea is unfamiliar.  The fantasy worlds created by TV have helped to shape the single most progressive 100 years in history.  Without TV, most every social movement of the last century would have been far less successful and some probably would have failed outright.  Feminism is one of the movements most indebted to the fact that TV rarely projects an accurate portrait of society.

  6. I never watch American tv; its just awful.  I don't know how you people can stand it.

  7. America media sucks. If I watch the news, I watch the world news on BBC America or the English version of the Deutsche Welle.

  8. It's not a U.S. thing, it's a popularity thing. Independent artists are always more real than anyone in high rotation on MTV.
