for all of you who think dance isnt a sport, dance is just as hard as soccer football baseball and all of that. i'd like to see you TRY to dance. dance is more than skipping around in a tutu. dance requires stregth, concentration, and skill at being able to adapt new routines.

  1. Oh no, it's not just you. It pisses me of A TON. Like more than words can describe. I just went to a dance camp a week ago, and we warmed up (like serious cardio warm ups) for two hours, and then danced for seven. We had three days to pick up choreography for 7 routines. Plus we had days filled of straight technique. In my opinion, not even the strongest athelete could have delt with that--only a dancer could.

  2. Totally agreed. I f they let ice skating(ballet on ice) in the Winter Olympics why shouldn't they allow ballet  in the Summer Olympics.

And David E I act too and rarely do you have to do 5 billion crunches or sit-ups in a play, which is the equivalent of dance.

  3. Yeah I hate it too. People don't know the blood, sweat, and tears that comes from years of training. The strength, the love you have to have for it, having versatility. Also having to take more than harsh criticism. I definitely would say that basketball, football, hockey etc. Could never do what we do.

  4. dancing is waaaaaaaaaay harder than it looks.

i took ballet for boxing and the stuff they have you do is hard.

itz as much of a sport as basketball and football.

i also hate people that say dancing is "g*y" cuz id like to see them try to do it.

  5. I could stand up and say at all times that "DANCE IS A SPORT"

Firstly for David, i think he doesn't know to dance or either his parents made him hate it at all or his ex-girlfriend danced when she made him cry or on and on.

This question is to be answered not argumented on!!!!!!!!

Why do people join my dance classes to loose weight, and tell me that they wouldn't join baseball or football teams ?

Answer to this:Since Dance is comparitively far more interesting, you could apply it to ur daily routine, you wouldn't go to a party/clubbin/any occassion/ and play football there, people will mock at u.

It uses every single bone to make it flexible, every muscle to loosen it,and every hip to jiggle with.

Have you ever seen a sportsman kick the ball and put the ball in the basket at the same time.

but in dance, a true talent can swing the hands even while break dancing.

While dancing if i move my hip to the right side, i can move my legs to the left side.

it takes brains, ask me how, ur mind has to tell ur body to move my hands around from left to right,my left leg front,my right leg behind, my hip from right to left and my head up and down.

"DANCE IS A SPORT"   its high time u realise that.

    Choreographer, Dance Teacher.

    Cheers.

  6. Dance is a sport for those people who are ignorant about it. In 1950 they officially called dance competition sports. As they have made basketball from physical education and play into sports. Here's a site for DANCE SPORTS:

    http://sports123.com/dan/index.html

A lot of athletes called organized dance (ballet, jazz, modern, ballroom, etc...) sports.

It is just semantics what others are trying to prove. Sports is when you compete, otherwise, it's play. Most what we call sports came from play, and when it became competition then we called it sports.

Gymnastic has the same scoring system as to dance in some ways - talking about the floor exercise. Competitive Ice skating is the same way, too.

Sports like basketball, football, etc... were play before they became officially called sports. Let me see, skateboarding... used to be a child's toy, now a sport - Tony Hawk is not doing sports?

Dancing at a night club is not sports, dribbling a ball is not a sport, passing the pigskin is not a sport... put them in an arena and they are called sports.

Sports is not an art?  M Ali greatest artist in the boxing world. Boxing is consider an art. It is called martial art. Tae kwon do in Olympics - a martial art - art or sports or both.

Bicycle in Olympics - seems like it started as a form of transportation and play - so is skiing.

Speed walking (racewalking) a sport - so a lot of New Yorkers are athletes?

"That requires strength, concentration and skill too."  Hmmm. The World Confederation of Billiard Sports, requires strength - more than a dancer?

Sports Fishing - sports or food acquisition?

Hunting - sports or food acquisition or animal murder?

Bowling - strength to lift 15 pound ball and not drawing a sweat vs. dancer lifting another dancer...

Dance competition/Cheerleading (main movements are dancing) in ESPN, a sports station.

I could go on and on...

So those people, educate yourself. Remember two wrongs don't make a right; except in true and false, where two wrongs just make you stupid. What does it has to do with it? Nothing.

  7. I know exactly what you mean!!!!!!!!!!! I HATE it when people say that because its not like were saying the same thing about football!!!! Its very unfare!!! WE just make it look easy in our costumes and makeup but they don't even know how much hard work it takes!!!! Hope that was what you were looking for!!

  8. That makes me soo mad too! And its not just people dont think its a sport.. they think it not hard..its a joke..only girls do it..we wear little tutus and prance around on a stage..when actually it is soo much more. (and im not saying everyone thinks this)

I think that dance is special because it is an art and a sport.

the definition of a sport is..

an athletic activity requiring skill or physical prowess and often of a competitive nature

(and thats just one deffinition there isnt just one specific definition of a sport)

Dance requires skill and is competitive. It is competitive in many ways, dance competitions and i dont know about anyone else but the girls in my ballet class are very competitive, trying to be the best, trying to get the best part in the ballet or getting the solo in our dance.

Dance is a sport.. and i think some people ignorant, and i agree dance is just as hard as other sports, i mean i'd like to see some people do pointe.  :-)

  9. I know! I hate it when people say this. Someone asked what my favorite sport was once and I said dance, then my class got in a huge fight over it. I think it is cause it take skill. I've played stuff like, soccer and hockey in like, gym class and I think if you really try both just as hard, dance is just as hard. I hate it when people say it's not.

  10. omg it drives me crazy when people say that!!! especially my boyfriend's friends they always make fun of me!!!! and your right i'd like to see them do 400 sit ups a day and lifting omg it kills me!!

  11. Yeah, sorry, not a sport.  That would be like saying acting is a sport.   That requires strength, concentration and skill too.

  12. I'm a dancer and I don't consider it a sport. It takes physical ability but it's not objective. There is no win/lose. It's an art which if you ask me is much better.

  13. While I agree that it requires a great deal of physical strength and ability, in actuality, dancing is an art.

Sports have rules and a scoring system while most dancing does not have such things. Dancing at any professional level is a matter of style and personal expression while sports require a player to perform within a set of rules that are usually rigid and inflexible.

  14. Its not a sport; its an art form that requires a lot of athletic elements-but that still doesn't make it a sport.

The definition of sport is: "an athletic activity requiring skill or physical prowess and often of a competitive nature". Dance is only competitive if you do competitions.
