Is it just me or is the De La Hoya-Forbes fight already fixed?

Just my opinion but here it goes anyway if anyone disagrees please post. If ever there was a set-up this is it! It's a complete sham. Shame on the boxing establishment for this sad fight. And to question if Oscar is going to lose to one of HIS own "contender" groupies is ridiculous! Don't root for the underdog because it's not going to happen. Here are the reasons why in no particular order:

1. The rematch with PBF is already set.

2. Oscar, if he loses, will lose much more in potential PPV revenue against PBF .

3. It's not going to be by decision b/c Oscar has to prove he can still fight! So Forbes has to hit the deck and be KO'ed or TKO'ed to generate interest in the rematch between him and PBF!

4. Did I mention that this match is a scheduled "tune-up"?

Any serious boxing fan knows that this fight is fixed!

  1. That's why I dont like watching tune up fights. You have to ask yourself this. Is the tune up coming to win? Is the tune up coming to put up a good fight and lose? When they say tune up, I say coming to lose on purpose. PBF clearly beat Oscar. PBF did what ever he wanted to do. Hit Oscar with clean shots, jab etc. Oscar was throwing fluries, and most of them was'nt landing. He hit PBF with some good shots. PBF won most of the rounds. Some people just cant get over there wanting PBF to lose at any cost. The first fight was just a tune up for PBF. This is more serious becuase its his belt. That's the reason why I dont want to see a rematch. I thinks its staged.

  2. i dont think its fixed, catch the fight live on http://www.livetvnetwork.net

  3. Well, you're right in the sense that the outcome is virtually a foregone conclusion.  However, it is not a fixed fight- what I mean by that is, Forbes is going to try his best to win, but that simply won't be enough, and Oscar will beat him because he is the bigger, faster, stronger, and simply better fighter.  And Oscar was actually not a part of "The Contender", that was Sugar Ray Leonard; Oscar had his own show called "The Next Great Champ", but it didn't have any success and barely lasted one season.  You're right- this is just a tune-up fight, but like Woody said, MANY great fighters have had tuneups before some of their biggest fights, and you can't blame Oscar for wanting to be prepared as possible for a rematch with the best fighter in the world.  I also think that Oscar is going to purposefully try and draw this fight out for at least until the middle rounds becuase he wants to work on a few things- after all, this is a "tune-up."  Oscar even stated himself on the "Countdown" show that this fight is an opportunity for him to work on certain things.  He just got back with Floyd Mayweather, Sr. and he is going to want to try and work on things in the ring that he's been doing with Floyd, Sr. in the gym, particularly, THE JAB because many people have attributed his lack of jabbing to one of the main reasons why he lost to Mayweather, Jr.  I personally think that he lost because Floyd is simply the better fighter, but Oscar's jab WAS working for him early in the fight.  If he does get the KO or TKO, I think that it will be late in the fight.

  4. Any serious boxing fan knows that you haven't the slightest fu**ing idea what you're talking about.

Having trained professional fighters and worked actively in fighting gyms for twenty something years, whenever the subject of 'fixed' fights comes up amongst people active in the boxing world, we always laugh at idiotic 'theories' like the one you just laid out.

Corny scenarios like the one you proffer are the kind of junk one sees in bad movies that play late at night on HBO.

There is simply too much money being earned at the top sphere of the sport to actually 'bribe' someone to take a dive. If a fighter is being paid seven or even eight figures, what's the financial enticement to take a dive?

Moreover, to truly fix a fight, have you actually thought about how many people have to be in on it? Both fighters, everyone in their corners, the referee, the judges, the promoter - literally scores of people. And they all have to keep quiet. Ever heard the expression 'three can keep a secret if two are dead'?

And, every fighter I have ever known is too d**n proud to accept extra cash to lose a fight. If he does that, he has to face himself in the mirror each morning, look his wife/girlfriend and possibly kids in the face, not to mention friends and family, knowing of his appalling subterfuge and how all these people close to him were duped because of his greed.

If this bulls*t of yours was actually viable, there is no way Zab Judah would have been allowed to lose to Carlos Baldomir, potentially killing the superfight with Mayeather that had already been scheduled.

Never thought about that, did you?

    *additional*

Uh..bud..everyone supposedly knew their roles in the outcome of Judah/Baldomir, which was also supposed to be a 'tune-up' for Judah's fight with Mayweather.

Guess Baldomir didn't study the script hard enough.

  5. Well, you have some nice points. Most fighters take on fairly easy tune-up fights hoping to gaurantee their way to the bigger showdown that awaits.

Oscar's case, he is no different. Before his fight with Bernard Hopkins, most expected Oscar would breeze through Felix Sturm, but Sturm wasn't having any of that and he actually made things rough for Oscar. In my opinion Sturm got robbed in that fight.

  6. I DON,T BELIEVE IN TUNE UP FIGHTS OSCAR HAS BEEN A WORLD CHAMPION MANY TIMES THE PERSON WHO NEEDS A TUNE UP FIGHT IS STEVE FORBES. CORRECT ME IF I,M WRONG BUT SUGAR RAY LEONARD DID NOT HAVE A TUNE UP FIGHT BEFORE HE FOUGHT MARVIN HAGLER AND RAY HAD BEEN AWAY FROM BOXING FOR FIVE YEARS AND HE WON THE FIGHT. One more  thing if Oscar has already fought Floyd Mayweather why would he need a tune up fight to fight him again. I know it,s all about money just had to put my two cents in

  7. I would agree.  All you have to do is look at history.  The last time DLH had a tune-up he was preparing for Hopkins.

He got into the ring with a kid named Strum.  Despite most observers thinking that Strum won the fight, Oscar came away with the win and mega-fight with Hopkins.  Hopkins went on to school DLH.

History will repeat itself.  Oscar will beat Forbes, only to lose to PBF.  Oscar really does not care, as he will pocket a lot of money for the rematch with PBF.

The only thing, I will say is while I think a KO would be good for DLH, I don't think it will be necessary to get the rematch with May.
