Sorry to ask what might be a stupid question but is it ok to take my python out to a park? IE, am I likely to get arrested for having a dangerous animal in a public place or anything like that? I've never taken her out so far but I heard this weekend will be hot so I thought it'd be a good time...

  1. it depends on where you live and what snakes are illegal to have in your particular city.  if there is a locally owned reptile store where you live you could go ask them what snakes are allowed in your city.  even a petco could probably tell you what snakes are legal and illegal.  some cities have length regulations on snakes and some cities have species regulations on snakes.  you cant just go buy what they sell at the pet store because they have loopholes to sell animals that sort of aren't allowed in your city.  like where i live they don't allow snakes over 7' long but they can sell baby burms because they are little as babies.  i hope this made sense.

  2. If it's not poisonous you'll be fine. :-)

  3. Well if i saw that in a park i would sh** myself!!

I don't think people will be too impressed.

Any way if you have a garden why not take her there!

Also i know someone who had a snake and lost it in there garden i went round to help look and it was in a tree! Needless to say when i saw it i nearly had a kitten!lol

  4. well i dont see why not im  mean as long as you know she wont hurt anyone  then its fine . i mean a dog can be dangerous but people take them out for walks . and i mean cats they are even more dangerous (one attacked my dog) and there allowed to roam free ... just to be on the safe side call up your local council just in case .

  5. D. Finch, you're an absolute buffoon.  I don't have a snake to start conversations, you juvenile imbecile.  Not everyone is as shallow, stupid or ugly as you.  And if you'd like to discuss it further, come to Hyde Park tomorrow and let's talk man to man, if you are brave enough.

  6. Legal or not, it is an EXTREMELY bad idea!

Many people are terrified of reptiles. This includes police, city council members, and city attorneys. Many cities have "exotic" animal ordinances, which prohibit keeping snakes as pets. Most of the time, these ordinances are enacted because somebody complained about somebody else keeping snakes.

Do you know where I am going with this?

If the right (or wrong) person sees you with a snake, and files a complaint, you could see ownership of snakes and other reptiles outlawed in your city.

I am not exaggerating- this sort of thing happens frequently.

Quite a price to pay for a couple hours of showing off!

  7. Yeah you can take it out

as long as you know it's legal to have it

in your state. then that's fine.

i bet little kids will start staring at you.

  8. I don't think it's illegal to have a snake outdoors in England, and I know you can transport them through London via the underground or on trains, as long as they are housed appropriately whilst being transported.  That said, bus drivers are allowed to refuse to accept you if they feel the animal (not necessarily a snake, but any pet) is likely to threaten or scare anyone.

I would suggest by his response that D Finch would indeed be scared of snakes, otherwise he or she wouldn't post such pointless vitriol.

  9. I get my RTB out in my neighborhood. The kids petting it and wanting to hold it really stresses it out though. I try to just get it out in my yard or something. It might get stressed out enough to bite someone. Just go with your best judgment.

  10. I can't see a problem so long as it is under control and does not strangle any children or eat any Yorkshire Terriers.
