hey if you want to go into a landfill and separate the materials into recyclable items all the more power to you ,more people should do it,its a shame when you go to a landfill and see all the materials there that belong in a blue box(recycle bin)

You can recycle all sorts of things - veg peelings can be composted; most wrappings off food can go in the cardboard or plastic if the plastic has that little arrow circle on it; clothes go to charity shops with shoes,books, bric a brac;  it is legal to recycle everything if you can find a place for it. Its not legal to put it in the wrong bin though cos most councils will fine you now!!

it is not illegal to recycle things. in fact many authorities actively encourage it. It can get fraught with problems as  it's easy to get things mixed up and drop  things in the incorrect box's. this leads to fines etc as councils take a dim view of incorrect recycling. I assume that was the thrust o the question and not 'can we recycle waste from a land fill site'? in this case you have to get permission to remove and rework stuff , silly it may sound but there are environmental issues and the council would b failing in it's duties if it didn't check ever thing was being done correctly. Waste is one of the world's biggest problems with plastic as number one issue. We all  use far too much and have given up such things as a wicker shopping basket which can be reused for many years as unwieldy and unfashionable. later Taxes will be increased to reduce our involvement with plastics but not quick enough and they are being held back by vested interested parties. good luck with your search and well done for thinking green.

The answer would be for us all to reuse more and not use the things that cant be reused or composted.
