Not whether it is morally acceptable, whether it is legal

  1. I would recommend the teacher get the support of the administration, THEN send a parent permission letter home and ONLY those who return it signed would be allowed to watch the film.  The rating on the movie allows for parental guidance.  As long as the permission is granted, there is no law broken.

  2. I don't believe that it is illegal, but you could possibly have some very angry parents on your hands. The school needs to have a policy on showing movies. Some schools have parents sign a permission slip and have students whose parents oppose (if there are only a few), go to another room. Recently my son's drama class wanted to watch Sweeny Todd and the teacher sent home permission slips. I sign, but apparently not very many parents signed, so they watched Singing in the Rain instead.

  3. In our school [a US school] if a teacher wants to let his/her class view an educational but highly rated movie, it has to be approved by administration then a letter/ permission slip must go home. Once signed, those students can view the movie.
