My bank charges me money to check my balance on the atm machines provided by the bank itself. But they do not charge you to check your balance via the phone. Why and how can they do this?

  1. I havnt heard this happen before. First i would ring up your bank and put  a complaint in! That sometimes get your money back. After that if your not happy go to the financial ombudsman and write a letter of dissatisfaction with your banks service and fees, banks usually hate this so say to the bank refund me the money or i will go to the ombudsman. Plus try to find a issue of the banking guide in your country as this will tell you if banks can charge you or not just for a balance, GREEDY C***TS lol

  2. Different banks charge different fees.  You should have gotten a schedule of fees when you opened the account and the fee would have been disclosed there.  If you can't find one and can't locate a copy on the bank's website, call them and ask for one.  I would also complain about the balance inquiry fee.

Personally, I would not do business with a bank that charged me to check my balance on their own ATM.  You may want to look into other banks or credit unions and take your business somewhere else.

    Good luck.

  3. Banks can charge whatever fees they see fit.  there is no regulation as to when they can or cannot charge you for something.  Just like some banks make you pay to go through an actual teller, it is their ATM, they decide who pays.

  4. Banks can pretty much charge what they want for whatever they want.  When you open an account and sign all those forms, you are agreeing to pay those fees.

If you are unhappy with your bank's fees, look around for a new bank.  Different banks charge for different things.
