I understand the need to be assessed by the company (private insurance company in Ontario, Canada) and am willing to meet but not at my home. What are my legal options?

  1. I'm sure like any insurance policy their is a cooperation clause.  If you do not agree to cooperate, then they can terminate your benefits.  Now, does the adjuster have to meet you at your house.  It depends on what he is trying ascertain.  If he just wants to see you and discuss your condition, then I would say his request is unreasonable.  Like the previous entrant stated, if he wants to inspect your house, unsure of what reasons that may be, then that may be grounds for his position.  Not sure what you have stated with your disability claim in regards to your living conditions that might make that an issue.

    Good luck

  2. There are reasons that the adjuster would want to meet you in your home. Your claim may be such that living in your house may be unsuited with the condition that you have. What is you disability? You may have claimed that you can't work or climb stairs. By going to your house he my see that you have to climb stairs just to get around.

If you have nothing to hide, why not let the adjuster come?

  3. Report this adjuster to his superior.  Send a letter to whoever is in charge telling them you are more than willing to meet their adjuster in a public place, but you will not go to a stranger's home and you do not feel it is appropriate.
