Question:

Is it legal for a player to serve their second serve while the ball from their first serve is still bouncing?

During a recent doubles match the server missed her first serve. She then quickly tried to hit her second serve. I held up my hand for her to wait because the ball from the first serve was still bouncing. She complained that she should be able to serve anyway? Does anyone know what the appropriate rule is?

  1. that is an illegal hit and that wouldnt count.

  2. Of course it's not legal. She's just trying a fast one on you.

  3. it is not legal but people get so mad for missing their first serve they rush their second serve. If a line judge is not there then they can't do anything because line judges won't take away a point or anything unfortunatly. But if the ball is still bouncing you can start to try to hit it because if you do it is your point or if you hit near it I have noticed they get nervious and then try to move it which gives you extra time for open court. Good luck! By the way.. How did the match go?

  4. Not sure but in our league but in DC area (WATL) on court rules:   "If a player is not ready to receive the serve, the player should not make any effort to play the ball".

You were not ready to receive the serve if you hand was up.
