Is it legal for farmers to trap and kill wild birds in n.y. state?

a farmer near me is trapping and killing wild birds because he says they are ruining his crops,

he has as amny as 50plus in the cage at one time.

  1. If they are crows- I believe NY has no restriction on bag limit or season.  He can kill as many as he wants.

    If its another species, it's not legal.


  2. It depends what kind of birds. For example, i know swans and doves are under the protection of the law. I don't know them all, you should ask the police, maybe?

  3. No. Call the DEC asap. they sometimes can get away with killing non native birds like strlings, pigeons sparrows. But has to be in a humane way. Any bird that migrates he can be fined and put in jail for. Call asap. Thanks

  5. This is definitely illegal..ALL wild native birds in the US are protected by the Migratory Bird Treaty Act. You need to report him immediately to your local US Fish and Wildlife Service or DNR (Department of Natural Resources).  heavily
