  1. where are you.... different countries have different laws. in japan, yes you can split lanes/traffic anywhere. in the states... only in california can you split lans but i doubt if you can do it in moving traffic and in those lanes... but really, it depends on where you are.

  2. Sorry all, but it is perfectly legal to 'filter' between lines of traffic on a motorbike, although it is a risky business & tends to upset reps in Vectras & A3s;

  3. NO

  4. In the UK there are no laws relating to undertaking in this scenario as it is referred to as filtering. How ever if you are of off like a bat out of **** then you can be prosecuted for dangerous driving.

I filter in standing motor way traffic only, and carefully with the main beam headlight on, and have had no problems, but you have to look out for the lane swappers, the door openers, and the tea cup dregs and even nappy liners coming out of the tin tops windows.

So you have the option of between lanes 1 and 2 , and 2 and 3, but offside in lane 3 you are more likely to get balked by the occasional width restrictions of the central barriers.

If it all gets too narrow, just join the quess, or you could be joining the que at the local A&E.

  5. No its BL00DY NOT

  6. No but they oftern do if ppl in cars dont move over

  7. Its legal to filter in the uk, but i believe only in slow moving traffic and at no more than 5mph faster than the traffic.

  8. It is only legal to pass another vehicle on the nearside if the traffic is moving slowly, in queues or someone is indicating to turn right (unusual on motorways).

As a motorcyclist, it's never a good idea to create an extra lane for yourself. No other road user is going to know it's there so when they pull into it and say "sorry mate, didn't see you" you only have yourself to blame.

  9. if traffic is moving well its illegal if its slow moving or stationary its called filtering this is legal BUT you have to be able to stop if a car door opens or the like , ins companies don't like it if you have an accident while doing this and getting off with it is difficult unless some idiot car driver is wreckless they will always blame the biker

  10. No it is not legal, if you are between 2 lanes, you are in neither lane, so it is not legal.

  11. not in the uk it ,its illegal....its classed as left hand overtaking [under taking]....

  12. In the UK it is perfectly legal.  In slow moving traffic it is absolutely fine, but if you do so at speed and get caught it would likely be charged with a dangerous driving type office.

  13. In Great Britain, filtering or 'lane splitting' is perfectly legal, providing it is done at a "reasonable speed".

The definition of "reasonable speed" is where the problem lies.  It's a bit of a grey area.

If the traffic is doing 50mph and you slice up the middle at 70mph, that's not reasonable.

If the traffic is doing 30mph and you filter along at 35-40mph, that's PROBABLY reasonable.

Only the traffic cop who stops you  has the last word on that.

However, if you are involved in an accident whilst filtering, your insurance company will almost certainly go 50/50 on any claim.

  14. Lane splitting is legal in California.

  15. It is illegal

    either choose 2nd lane

or go in 3rd lane to overtake

  16. Ca-yes, Nv-no. I did it for years in L.A. I lived on the white line. It's called "lane sharing", there are guidelines for it. If the traffic is doing 35 mph or more you are supposed to merge, Less than that and you are allowed to go up to 5 mph faster then them on the line.

  17. >>   ride between vehicles

No.  And that is just plain dangerous.

    good Luck...

  18. You can on any road if you feel it is safe to do so, Insurance company never used to pay out if you were to have a accident in that position but it as changed they will pay out now.

  19. If you're referring to "filtering" it depends, some states/provinces/countries have laws that strictly prohibit this action, some have no laws regarding it, and other places have guidelines where it is legal...

no matter where you are, you must be careful, and be prudent about it...

  20. In California it is.

  21. No.

If there is a vehicle in the outside lane already then you are undertaking.Illegal.

  22. In the UK is is now illegal to "undertake"

also driving between moving vehicles is very dangerous legal or not!

most  people on the motorway  are not paying attention to whats coming up behind them let alone between them!
