My insurance company is telling me something about my daughter being 26 and should not be under my car insurance about some liability issue. Does someone know about this or can refer me to some information resources? Thanks for your help.

  1. Typically some of the answers given here are incorrect.  That's pretty normal in our business, everyone thinks they know the answer to an insurance question, few really do.

    Take care.

  2. Its a bad idea, legal or not.

  3. You actually haven't given enough information regarding your situation. Does your daughter live with you? Does she own   or lease her own vehicle?  If the company is telling you she should have her own policy, she should. One thing you can do is call another agent and see if you get the same advice. It is also an opportunity to check your coverage and premium.

As a general point of information, you do have liability if you have an adult child on your car insurance. A twenty-six year old independent woman should have her own policy, if she owns or leases a vehicle. If she becomes involved in an accident, it is possible YOUR rates will increase since she is on your policy. Hope this explanation helps. Some adult children w/ bad driving records have actually caused their families to wind up in the high risk pool of drivers--even though the parents had flawless driving records.

  4. If she's living in your home, she absolutely should be on your policy. If not, I don't think she can be after she turns 24 ... but this might vary by the state that you live in.

  5. No. I'm twenty and on my own and I'm on my dad's insurance.
