  1. No one is illegal in following like that. No matter its a policeman or ur landlord or another guest

  2. Assuming the USA

the landlord actions may have been illegal in certain area depending on the facts

    1. sounds like the landlord violated the state statute of your right to quit enjoyment of the place, to be free of landlord interference

    2. how did the landlord follow and challenge the person?  under a certain fact pattern the landlord could be found to have harassed the person, and may have conduct themselves in an illegal manner when challenging the person, that person may want to file a police report if the facts so warrant

3, the person does not have to stop and listen to the landlord, and if the landlord tries to detain the person to question them this also would be illegal

so depending on the certain facts police complaint maybe in order

  3. I wouldn't think so, it is clearly an infringement of privacy.

You have the 'right to quiet enjoyment' of the rented property, and should NOT be spied on.

It seems that the landlord is harrassing you, report it.

  4. It's not illegal.

    It's rude. But not illegal.

He must think that you're sub-letting and he wants to check.

  5. Is it legal? Unfortunately yes - just like if you were to ask someone a question like "what's the time" it is legal for someone to ask a question on a public street.

If the landlord was to knock on the door and challenge them in person then that would be interfering with your right to quiet and peaceful enjoyment of the premises.

I would suggest you contact your agent (if you have one) and advise them of the landlords actions.  Put your complaint into writing.  They won't want you to vacate as a result of the owner's actions so just make it clear that confrontation of guests is not acceptable.  You may also want to point out the length of time the guest is staying.

So in answer to your question - yes it's legal, no it's not polite!

  6. It is not illegal. The landlord can inquire.

If your boyfriend spends more nights then not at your house, the landlord may suspect that he is living there.

  7. A landlord has a right to know who is living in his property.  They have a right (or a responsibility to the neighbors) to check them out and see about criminal background and such.  If they suspect you have a long term "guest" then they may feel the need to investigate that.
