Is it legal for our local concil to clamp my car after i have missed one council tax payment?

they came on to my driveway in a house that i have a mortagage on and clamped my car when i wasnt there and then demanded the full amount of council tax for the year plus charges before they took the clamps off. ive spoken to a few people and they have questioned the legality of this??

They cannot trespass on your property without a court order,cut it off and leave next to the gate [tell them first] there"s nothing they can do about it

Its your fault, you didn't pay.

The council aren't stupid they aren't going to do something illegal.
