  1. Yes, when the adopted child comes into your home, they become a member of your family.  We plan on using four names, keeping their last name as another middle name and adding ours as the last name.

  2. yes it legal

  3. Yes once the child is legaly adopted they can change the childs name i mean why woulnd't they the child is part of their family now.

  4. It's legal, strange to want to change their adopted child's surname to one different from theirs though. If I'd read your question correctly you are saying the childs name would be different to that of the parents who adopted the child? I just can't see why anyone would want to do that.

I was adopted, brought up with my adopted parents surname, then had it changed by deed poll when I was 16 to that of my mothers 2nd husband but that was because he was more of a father to me. The child's surname will remain the same on their birth certificate though - ie. that of their adoptive parents.

  5. Yes well if they have adopted the child then I would imagine legally they are free to change the whole name as they see fit. :)

  6. Hi Dave,

Yes, it is legal.  Traditionally, adoptive parents have changed the child's last name to match their own, but there is no requirement that they change it to their own, or that they change it at all.

At the time of the adoption, an altered birth certificate is issued for the child.  Depending on who is advising the adoptive parents, they may not even be informed of the options as far as changing or not changing the child's name.

    Hope that helps.
