im 17 my boyfriend is 19. is it legal in the state of california for me to be dating him ?

Date? Sure. There are no laws in any state that govern who you can date.

If you have s*x, however, it's illegal. CA has the highest age of consent in America, at 18, and also has no "close in age" exemption to legalize s*x with a person under 18.

For such an otherwise liberal State, CA has draconian laws about underage s*x. CA is almost the only State where two 17 year olds that have s*x with each other could both be criminally convicted.
