Is it legal?!?

Im due to have my first baby in the next fourteen days, I just wanted to ask, is it really legal to speed down a street if I am in labor? My husband wants to try it but I dont want to chance a speeding ticket. One of his friends with kids say that when you get pulled over all you do is explain and the police officer will escort you to the hospital (and something about having our emergency lights on). If its legal, whats the fastest speed we can travel at? (He wants to try doing eighty) we live in Texas by the way. And wouldn't getting pulled over take more time than just doing speed limit? Has anyone ever gone through this or gotten a ticket for speeding while in labor?

  1. Let him sleep call 911

  2. what your asking is, will you get a speeding ticket if you speed on your way to the hospital.  And the answer would be, maybe.  in my career i have never heard of an officer give a ticket for someone speeding to the hospital, but on the other hand i have also never experienced or heard of anyone giving a code three escort to the hospital in the case of a pregnancy.  it is too much of a liability.  if there was a case where you needed to speed to make it on time to have a child.  the most likely response would be to dispatch an ambulance to your location.  To sum it all up, speed kills. take your time or if you have to call 911.

  3. Personally I think your husband is an Idiot to want to speed while you're in labor with his child. Does he not realize that increased speed can cause accidents...You should definitely talk him out of this!

  4. Depending were you live, Its safer to just drive maybe 10 above the limit. But im guessing you live in Dallas or somewhere like that, so you should live that far away from a hospital, just be safe, being pulled over is as bad as crashing though.

  5. There isnt going to be a need for any of that. Your contractions are going to start out very far apart and they are going to become closer together very slowly. You should have more then enough time between the time contractions start and you get closer to actually delivering to drive safely to the hospital.

    EDIT

Infact you might get there and be sent back home because you are that far away from delivery.

(My wife told me to add that)

  6. That's really smart. Go 80 and end up in a fiery crash.

  7. It doesn't sound like you've experienced real labor before.  When your contractions are in full swing and coming every 2 minutes you are not going to want him to speed.  You'll feel every bump in the road.  My husband still talks about how I was upset at him for hitting every bump at what I thought was full speed.  It turns out it was 10 miles per hour or less.  Most real life labor does not happen like it does in the movies.  It takes a long time and you'll get to the hospital WAY before hand.  In fact, you'll probably be sent home at least once.  Just relax and enjoy the experience.  Life as you know it is about to change forever!

  8. speeding at 80 is nor a good idea

  9. With this being your first baby (I've had 5) unless you are having contractions 2 or 3 minutes apart and they are coming on STRONG there is NO REASON to need to speed to the hospital.  Babies usually do NOT come as quickly as you see on TV, especially with your first one you could be in labor 12-24 hours.    Relax, and goodluck!

  10. First of all I totally understand your husbands need for speed.  However, he will not only be putting his life at risk, but also yours and his unborn babies while speeding through the streets of TX to get you to the hospital.....As for a ticket, I guess that would depend on the police officer who pulls you over.  My advice would be to do the speed limit and get everyone SAFELY to the hospital.
