Is it legal: taping on demand?

is it illegal to tape a free movie on on demand...cause i wanted to tape jesus christ superstar and its free on on demand so i could stick the tape in press record on the vcr and it would record is it legal?

For your own personal use, it should be OK.

In the U.S. adding to a library is illegal, but Canada has not yet activated this new law.

However, its hard to catch people that do this.  

Although with DTV I think it will ultimately be easier to catch up with people, especially when Big Brother comes into affect.

Technically it is illegal. Taping things on distributable materials has been since the early 80's. There are ways around it, like for personal use or home movies.
