Is it legal to allow someone else to homeschool your child? Please read details before answering?

Before anyone even starts, no I'm not ,my baby isnt even one yet, but a friend and I were talking and we got curious.

Say someone wants their child to be homeschooled, perhaps their school system is a bad one, maybe they are in a place where there are only religious schools around (I've lived in both kinds of places...or combinations. I'm currently in a place where the schools are awful, the public schools teach from the bible, and the only private one is a christian one which still slaps kids for bieng left handed)

But perhaps they either do not have the time, or they feel someone would be better suited to teach their child. Maybe this person was a teacher, maybe they teach their own same-aged child, maybe they just know more, who knows. Would it be legal? Would you have to get around laws and say this person is a tutor? Thanks in advance.

  1. It depends on your nation, state and the credentials of the person doing the work.

If they can teach in local schools, it is probably ok.

  2. you can homeschool ur child urself by the book or et a friend to do it

  3. It depends on which state you live in. They each have there own set of laws for homeschooling. The less homeschoolers are involved with the policies, the more restrictions you'll see being placed on homeschoolers. ( so I'ts good to get involved). If you live in TN, only YOU or a FAMILY MEMBER can homeschool your kid. Contact HSLDA (homeschool legal defense association) to find out about your state.

  4. I just wanted to commend you for already thinking about your baby's education.  Anyway it depends on the state.

Check out hslda.org website to find your state.

How we homeschool is in an informal co-op.  I know that I don't know everything.  Math is is not my subject...but one of the moms happens to be a math professor sot she does a lot of math with the kids.  I hapen to love arts and crafts so I do lots of arts and crafts with the kids.  We hired a spanish teacher to teach the kids spanish and since there were 4 families it was very reasonably priced.  We have a Science Club and a history club. So we take turns with lessons or go on field trips together.  I am considered the one homeschooling my daughter but she is learning from so many more people than just me.

feel free to email me if you have more questions

  5. It depends on the laws of your state. hslda.org will have links to find groups in your area. Some homeschool groups in your state might let you join their email list where you can read information.

In Texas it is perfectly legal because in Texas homeschools are considered private schools. That means that anyone including a friend or...well anyone of your choice could homeschool your child. But it is not accredited, which is a good thing! Your child can be taught to their individual needs rather than the needs of twenty kids in a classroom.

    Good luck!

  6. In many places, yes, it is legal.  I have friends that are homeschooling neighbor kids or nieces and nephews.  The parents should be involved, of course, and to make sure of any legal questions, go ahead and run it past the folks at HSLDA.

The common misconception is that homeschooling means that only the parent teaches the child.  This is the case in some families, but for most, it means that the parents get full  and final say about what your child learns, where, when, and from whom.

    Hope that helps!

  7. In a word (or six!): it depends on where you live.

Different countries have very diffferent rules and, within those countries, different States have their own different rules.

Assuming you're in the US, check out the HSLDA for the general information in your home State and your local homeschooling group for the specifics.

PS I feel queasy that there can still be anywhere left in the western world that still allows teachers to smack kids (that was banned here at least 20 years ago) and especially not for something as silly as being lefthanded! What next? a (so-called) Christian school that advocates burning 'witches' at the stake. And schools are supposed to be good places for children! Sorry, I'm not soft and I'm not anti-a whack on the bum from your own mum or dad but at school? That makes me feel sick.

  8. As far as I know as long as you the parent are involved with the process you can hire a teacher or let some one else teach them. look it up at www.hslda.org it will give you all the laws on home schooling even the laws in your state some are more strict than others.

And I can think of worse things than teaching out of the Bible! Think of the morals and lessons in history your kids can learn!!!

  9. In California, one way to legally homeschool is to hire an accredited tutor.  That may be an option where you are.  I'd check out http://www.hslda.org/Default.asp?bhcp=1 to see what is allowed in your state.

  10. It depends on the state.

This website has info by state.

  11. I suggest you check out the whole area of home schooling in more detail in your jurisdiction.  Some form of home schooling is legal in most jurisdictions but you need to look at the specific conditions where you live.

If you live in the US, you may find the following website helpful:

    If in the UK, try:

  12. It is legal to homeschool but you have to register yourself to a school board.
