Is it legal to beg for $$?

I often see poliece talking to the homless of my community. This made me wonder if beging for money is illegal in california? (with a sign on the divider of an intersection)

no it is not illegal. People have made a living on begging even though they are just to lazy to get a real job. the police move the homeless people because they are ether destrubing people or they are someones property

its actually illegal to ask for money and food. You can ask for cigarettes though

Hello Anthony. The legal offense you are referring to is called "panhandling" and is a minor misdemeanor.

Most times, the Police will simply ask the person to move on. Sympathies do exist and it just would severely overcrowd the jails to arrest every person who panhandles on the street corners.
