Is it legal to block access to a public sidewalk with a fence? New house is going up on the property.

They originally had the fence at their property line, but have now moved it to include the sidewalk, forcing us to walk in the street. This is in California, Los Angeles County.

  2. Such access can be temporarily blocked in the interests of safety for passers by.  Perhaps a special permit is needed (or not), but it can be done.


  3. No it is not.   The city will check on this within a few hours after you call.   They can get into serious legal trouble (the city can) for this, it is very dangerous and it violates the rights of all of your citys tax payers.

  4. No, that violates city codes in just about any city.

  5. the city or county may allow for a short period of time during construction but then back to normal. Check with the city codes department
