You can carry any firearm in a nationall forrest. Be advised that their is amoratoriumm on lead bullets in certain zones, like D-7 through D12 and the coast ares down that way because of the Condor.

If you need a little toy pop gun to protect yourself from a mountain lion, you are not a real hiker. Man up and fight that mountain lion with your bare hands. I bagged six last Saturday, and that was only because I was tired and went home around noon.

Yes, you can carry a weapon as long as it isn't concealed.

Only a fool would go in the back country without a rifle, shotgun or at minimum, a pistol.
