I want to carry an expandable baton with me in order to protect myself, but I've always been confused about the law.

  1. No, it's not legal.

  2. It is a weapon and is illegal.  It is a felony and you will be charged.

The reason the expandable is a "no question" item like a bat, is that there is no legitimate reason to have it outside of using it as a weapon.

You're legit with a folding knife in the pocket or a fully visible sheathed knife on your belt but you better know how and when to use it legally.

Read this for the laws on using self defense: http://ag.ca.gov/firearms/forms/pdf/Cfl2...

I think Chapter 3 covers it.

  3. you can carry it but if you use it, and cause injury or death, you will be charged.
