  1. To clarify the previous poster.  Buying a movie does NOT mean you have purchased the copyrights.  What you have purchased are the private viewing rights, i.e. the ability to view to product in your own home or other private venue.  The copyright always remains with the original producer unless specifically sold.


  2. By buying a VHS tape from a retailer or any other official store you have have automatically purchased the copyrights for the tape. It's okay to make backups of your movie on DVD but it is illegal to sell and distribute them.
