Is it legal to download shows??

Question

i want to download some shows like "Gilmore girls" and "Heroes" etc.

But is it legal to do so, I'm sick of streaming and i want something simple, but i don't want to break the law.

any useful tips?

i dont believe that u can get arrested for downloading shows from the internet ..just download using torrents or what ever source u havce

Technically it's illegal, but if you are downloading shows that you could just as easily record from the TV, it's harmless.

There are a lot of grey areas: If you download a pirated movie - Batman Begins, for example - that would be clearly illegal, but if you already have that movie on DVD then you would only be owning a second copy in a different format; it would still be illegal but someone would have to be very vindictive to prosecute over something so trivial.

There are also shows that can be downloaded legally; I download some fan-subbed animé shows that are not available to buy in a subtitled format and are not officially released outside of Japan.

Well technically yes it's illegal, however it's not as much of a big deal as downloading films and games. For example if you were to download a few Heroes episodes, watch them and then delete them you could say that you're 'sampling' the show before making a decision to buy it. Or you could adopt my attitude which is 'I pay my d**n tv licence and didn't watch heroes because I'm not about to revolve my life around a bloody programme schedule, so I'm morally (though probably not legally) justified in downloading it and watching it.'
