I was hit by another car in an accident and my drivers side fornt and back doors along with the sill(sp) under the door have been damaged. The drivers side door won't open at all and the rear drivers side door only about halfway. The rest of the car is fine and is in working/driving condition. The accident happened outside my house so the car has barely been moved. Is the car legal to drive? There is no damage to the wheels or anything else but have been told different things by other people.

The passenger side front and rear doors are fine so I can access the car okay.

  1. It might be legal but it is not safe and you could be ticketed for use of an unsafe vehicle.

  2. It is illegal to operate a vehicle that is unsafe, but a faulty door isn't usually considered unsafe. There are many 'what-ifs' to this topic, but I don't see any reason to it being illegal.

  3. What if the operable side were hit in another accident. How would you get out quickly if you needed to. It is illegal to drive a vehicle with defective equipment.
