Is it legal to drive with your airbags deployed?

my roommate wrecked his car and the only damage is the that the airbags deployed. He says that all he has to do is shove them back in and close it with tape. I'm thinking that's neither safe nor legal, but he's not so smart.

  1. why can he cut them off instead of shoving them back in?

  2. It is not safe and it is illegal. Why don't you kick him out. He seems to be selfish guy. Get another room mate. :-D.

  3. Doesn't matter what state you live in, it is illegal. If he were to be pulled over, he will be cited for this. Also, it would have to be fixed in order to pass inspection.

  4. if they deployed they're not going to reinflate in the next accident either way. Meaning if he gets into another accident his insurance probably won't cover the medical bills  if he's hurt.

  5. Here is a question to your question since more detail is needed to get the right information:

What state is the vehicle operated in?

Only a few states have motor vehicle laws regarding the operation of vehicles on the roadway with working supplemental airbag restraint systems. Let me know.

  6. Poor you, he is moving to Iowa too?  eek.

Well my friend did that after she had a wreck, and although she never got caught, because cops rarely check your airbags, its still very dangerous.

In essence, he'll probably get away with it, but if he does get in an accident, its bye bye roomie, nice knowin' ya.

  7. I don't know what the laws are in your state.  I would check out the policies on your state's Department of Motor Vehicles website.

  8. I don't know about his car but my son-in-law wrecked his car, once the airbags deployed, he couldn't even start the car , until a mechanic fixed them again.
