What I really need to know is whether or not it is acceptable along USGA rules and also the steps to put the sandpaper on the face.

  1. No, it is illegal to alter the face of the club in any way.

  2. no it is not . there are many groove cutters available aftermarket sales . golfsmith for example , which eill give the grooves that you want . use extreme caution . soft metal wedges , will have illegal grooves if you cut to deep . if you do go this way , please use oo grade steel wool . this will reove metal from face . high spin wedges , unless you have high club head speed , and are under a 7 handicap. are really not worth the money . i find used wedges , dirt cheap prices , re-grove to new condition . sell for 5 to 25 dollars . i notice the diference , vast majority. little or no benefit .

  3. That is a NO-NO according to the Rules of Golf -2008 edition approved by the R&A as well as the USGA. Rule 4-2b  covers the question. Violation of the rule will result in disqualification.

  4. The rules of golf rule 4-2b

Foreign material must not be applied to the club face for the purpose of influencing the movement of the ball

  5. No it is against the rules.  No foreign substance can be applied to the face of a club.

  6. As Mike T pointed out, not legal.

However, the club may be permitted to make its own "sandpaper".  Cobra used to make the "Trusty Rusty" a carbon steel club specifically designed to rust and create a highly abrasive surface.

Golf legend Sam Snead used to intentionally rust his clubs for this purpose.

  7. no

  8. no it's not, the clubs must come from the manufacturer as is, I had a buddy of mine that played on the Nike tour and bored out his groves on his irons and was disqualified for altering the club face. The grip is fine to change, but you can not alter the club face

  9. not legal
