  1. It is illegal in most states and in the ones that allow it, you typically have to obtain a license.  You'll need to check your state laws.  They do not make good pets, don't adapt well to human homes - they need a primate habitat that most people cannot provide.  They tend to become aggressive and bite when they become adults and can have the nasty habit of flinging f***s.  And they can give diseases to humans.  They typically live 25 years or more depending on species so they are a demanding and long-term commitment.

  2. How much they cost would depend on what kind of monkey you would want. Different breeds vary a lot in prices. Like Marmosets run any where from 2000 to 4000 each and Capuchins run anywhere from 8000 to 10,000 each.

To find out if you can have them where you live you would need to call your local Fish and Wildlife people. They can let you know about the laws where you live.

remember primates of any kind take a lot of care. It takes a lot of money and time to keep primates healthy and happy. Just make sure you do your research and know a head of time what you are getting into! GOOD LUCK

  3. You'll need to check with your local animal control people about what the law is in your area.  Some states classify monkeys as wild animals.  As such, they are not permitted to be kept as pets.  Also, there's the practical side to think about.  Caring for a monkey is not an easy task.  They are unpredictable and they can bite without warning.
