Is it legal to have a road with two different speeds on it one side 25 and the other side 40?

i recently got a speeding ticket for doing 44 in a 25 mph i believed that i had adjusted my speed appropriately but the officers said i did not and i got the ticket anyway on the other side of the road it's 40mph is that legal to have two different speeds on the same road opposite from each other

  1. what happens when there are roadworks on the motorway/freeway.  One side could have a different limit to the other.

    One side in Missouri. They other side in Kansas

  3. That depends on the state.  There are some that allow splits if the road is divided or in a situation where the sides are in different counties.

  5. It's probably legal, but it's confusing.  If there's a safety condition on one side of the road that merits a 25 mph speed limit, like a school or a residential area, why wouldn't that condition apply to the other side?

    Pay the ticket.  Then talk to the city, county, or state traffic engineer and ask them why the speed limits are different on each side of the road.  If they haven't heard a complaint about that situation before, then maybe they should look into it.
