I want to have a whale barbeque for the Fourth of July celebration.

Is it legal to buy it and import or smuggle it here?

What kind of barbeque sauce is best for whale meat?

Also I want to make a few whale sushi or sashimi ( I know whale is not a fish ). What cut is the most tender for eating raw?

  1. you're sick you know that? you should be ashamed of yourself. There is no need to eat whale meat and the poor creatures are endangered. You shouldn't be encouraging whaling. I hope you are successful in your "smuggling" and get caught

  2. Actually.....Start small.

    Langu:  Better known as Penguin.

    It fillets much easier.

Finer restaurants are starting to serve it but underwraps.

  3. Please tell me your joking?!?

No whale is not a legal meat to have imported into the U.S. but they do allow whaling in certain parts of the U.S. such as Washington State and Alaska,  but the amount allowed to be hunted is very limited, So unless your close to someone that hunts whales I wouldn't expect to be able to get your hands on any. That and unless you have an excessive amount of money I wouldn't count on finding any.

Trying not to be rude but how can you eat , or want to kill species of this earth that are already threatened and on there way to extinction. to me it's like hunting Polar Bear in Canada. Yeah, it brings money to there economy, but what happens when a beautiful species can only be seen in a glass cage at the local Zoo. All because you wanted something tasty for the fourth of July, or someone wanted some skin to put on there floor.

Don't get me wrong I'm not vegetarian or do I ever plan on becoming one, I love eating meat, I think animals are for human use. But how long is it going to take people to realize that we need to start saving the animals we have so that in twenty years we have enough animals to save ourselves.

  4. I dunno, but I would guess that a tangy bbq sauce would be best. I like Stubbs for that, but a hickory bbq sauce would be no good for whale. Hickory is only good for poultry like Bald Eagle and spotted owl.

sadly, whale meat is illegal to import, although I've brought whale jerky through customs several times. Great gift item for commercial fishermen.

  5. Mmmm...whale meat.  I bet it takes like really fatty shrimp.  It is prolly illegal, which makes me want to get some even more.  I would go with a dry rub for whale meat.
